  • About

We're celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Golden Hinde's launch with a fundraising campaign to raise funds to maintain the ship and continue educating schools and visitors. We're inviting you to help mark this special occasion by fundraising for us.

The original Golden Hinde is famous for its circumnavigation of the globe at a time when this was a miraculous feat of sailing skill and expertise.

The Golden Hinde replica, open to visitors today, has completed one circumnavigation, several Atlantic crossings and has sailed over 100,00 miles. She has also seen over 4 million visitors since her launch 50 years ago.

We invite you now to undertake your own Circumnavigation Challenge, of the world, your city or town, the local park or your very own garden.

Help us fundraise in a unique, fun way.

You can make a donation via this page if you prefer to not take part in the Circumnavigation Challenge.

The Golden Hinde is an independent museum. We are not a registered charity but reinvest all profits back into our organisation.

Why The Golden Hinde needs your support

The amazing history of the original Golden Hinde, and of the replica ship helps us to truly understand our Elizabethan history. Today, The Golden Hinde is an incredible educational resource and offers a historical experience to our visitors.

Every year, it costs £150,000 to maintain the ship in the way it would have existed in the 16th century, using master craftspeople and boatbuilders from around the globe.

Your support helps to ensure that this historic ship will continue to educate and entertain visitors from London, the UK and across the world for the next 50 years.

Plan your voyage

Things you need to consider before you start:

  • Will you be taking part in the challenge as a part of a crew or by yourself?
  • Choose your route, will you be circumnavigating your school, local park, village, town or the world?
  • Will you be walking, running, cycling, swimming, rowing, skateboarding?
  • How many hours/days will it take?
  • Will you complete the challenge by clocking up the miles or doing the actual route? If you're going to complete the actual circumnavigation, please plan carefully and consider the safety of your route.
  • What will be your fundraising target?
